Kids' Entertainment

Hampton Court Palace Food Festival is a fantastic family event, with plenty of FREE activities on offer to keep children of all ages entertained. From Shire Horses and Face Painting to the Circus School, Tudor Cookery and Sports Activities.

Meet the Shire Horses at Hampton Court Palace...

The relationship between the Shire horse and Hampton Court Palace dates to the time of Henry VIII.  Some 500 years ago, the King started the process of developing the ultimate warhorse and is credited with giving the resulting large and powerful breed of horses the name Shire – from the Saxon word schyran. This means to shear or divide, explaining why ‘shire’ is synonymous with ‘county.’ This breeding programme persisted until the 19th century until the advent of the internal combustion engine signalled their demise, and post-WWII, they were all but redundant and virtually died out. Today, Shire horses are designated at risk by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust.  In London, where once there were thousands, only one working herd remains, at Hampton Court Palace.

Come and meet these rare gentle giants during your visit, and find out more about them from their handlers.

Circus Sensible

Have a go at a whole range of circus skills with Circus Sensible's drop-in skills school. Running throughout the day, these informal sessions lets kids try their hand at a range of skills, such as juggling with scarves, balls and clubs, plate spinning, diabolo, and poi.  Circus Sensible will be on hand to help too, by teaching, encouraging and of course entertaining the children as they learn fun new tricks.  Find them in the palace grounds either side of their performances, and watch out for their roaming performers all around the event too.

Face Painting

Face Painting is a very popular activity for all ages, but especially for the kids!  About Faces offer full faces, eye designs, and hand or arm designs.  Face paint is water based and easily removed with soap and water.

Jackie & Tracy of About Faces have been face painting professionally for over 15 years, and will happily add some colour and sparkle to your child's day with their beautiful and fun designs.  They only use the highest quality products specifically designed for use on the Face & Body.

The Polka Dots

Celebrating their fifth year with us here at Hampton Court Palace, The Polka Dots are back, and this year bringing some extra special vintage song and dance to the children's area!

Every year, with their big and bright costumes, vocals and choreography, The Polka Dots attract a crowd of little ones on the bandstand, so brand new and exciting for 2018, we thought we would dedicate some entertainment to our mini-dots! Not only will our Polka Dots be performing their usual upbeat classics from the 1920's-50's, but this time, incorporating some groovy Soul & Motown songs and dances to engage your children in the power of music!
